deliver it when promised. timelines are commitments.

Execution is the ability to follow through on commitments, prioritize effectively, deliver results, and drive work forward with accountability and focus. People who execute well Own It — taking initiative to act on what's in front of them rather than waiting for perfect conditions or someone else to move first. Great execution also requires anticipating risk and building contingencies so the goal still lands when the risk becomes reality.

Strong executors are Tenacious. They set ambitious goals and pursue them with persistence when the path gets difficult or complex. They adapt their approach when something isn't working, escalate blockers early, and maintain momentum without sacrificing quality or collaboration. They treat timelines as commitments, not estimates — and when a deadline is at risk, they flag it early with a plan to adjust rather than letting others discover the miss. They Do Right by holding themselves to the same standard of quality and transparency whether or not anyone is watching. And they hold steady under pressure — resilience is what turns commitment into delivery.

Execution is progress on a current goal. It is not the same as Continuous Improvement, which changes how the work itself gets done.

Execution lives Own It, Be Tenacious, and Do Right — taking full accountability for commitments, refusing to settle for compromised standards when the original goal is still achievable, and delivering with integrity: not cutting corners under pressure, being transparent about risk, never compromising the standard you set.

five levels of mastery.

Scope: Your own work. · Commitment: This task, under known conditions.

Behavior

You confirm what is being asked by when, and to what standard before you start. You work with accurate urgency and meet what you committed to. When a commitment is at risk you raise it early with a specific proposed adjustment, not a warning. Your work needs little rework because you check it before you send it.

Upside

Becoming someone the team can plan around.

Trap

Letting a deadline slide quietly rather than renegotiating it out loud.

Not yet

You deliver what you were given; you do not yet manage competing claims on your time.
